Allt liv uppstår ur havet
this series was inspired by the notion of nature/the sea as a mother from the early movements of eco criticism (e.g. Rachel Carson) and the fact that all living creatures have evolved from the sea.
it deals with the attractive force of the sea. the human appears as detached from its environment and seeks for its origin.

Wie ist es ein Schmetterling zu sein?
This project inspired by "What Is It Like to Be a Bat", a philosophical essay written by American philosopher Thomas Nagel in 1974, which deals with the different cognitive perceptions of humans and bats and the awareness of these.
My work deals with anthropocentrism and the projection of human experiences onto a non-human species, which represents an appropriation or approximation through empathy and external perception. It tackles the complexity of relating to other species and the human incapability of imagining the life of an animal.
The series also meant to reflect on conservation and about about grieving the loss of species. The wings were collected in a cellar, where bats eat butterflies and the wings are left behind. Butterflies are considered by humans as "worth protecting" and "grieveable"; bats with their less beautiful appearance usually don’t receive the same affection.
The project should also be a commentary on the human habit of interfering with the lives of other species under the guise of species protection and conservation. The natural balance has been destroyed by humans and now with a break and fix mentality everything that is already disrupted has to be "saved" with even more destruction.
The title „Wie ist es ein Schmetterling zu sein“ is in German, because it resonates the most with me, „Schmetterling“ sounds both gentle and brutal.
